Lansing, Mich. (Feb. 12, 2025) - Yesterday, Promote the Vote Executive Director Micheal Davis, Jr. delivered an address at the Michigan Nonprofit Association’s Nonprofit Day at the Capital outlining the Promote the Vote coalition’s recent pro-voter successes and its unwavering commitment to ensuring every Michigander has free, fair, and secure access to the ballot box.

Speaking before a diverse audience of advocates, election administrators, and legislators, Davis highlighted the coalition’s transformative work, including the passage of Proposal 18-3 and Proposal 22-2, which expanded voting rights through state constitutional amendments backed by overwhelming public support. These historic reforms eliminated the voter registration deadline, established automatic voter registration, enabled no-reason absentee voting, and created true early voting in Michigan.

“Michigan voters have spoken—again and again—demanding a more accessible and secure election system,” said Davis. “Promote the Vote has helped lead the charge, ensuring our democracy works for all, regardless of zip code, background, or political affiliation.”

Looking ahead, Promote the Vote reaffirmed its 2025 policy priorities, which focus on:
Enhancing voter access by building on recent reforms
Safeguarding election security to maintain public trust
Fostering collaboration to strengthen Michigan’s democracy

Davis also warned against efforts that seek to undermine these hard-fought gains. Specifically, he called attention to the recently introduced House Joint Resolution B, labeling it a "non-solution" designed to block and burden Michigan voters while also imposing unnecessary and onerous additional work for election officials.

“Our elections should be about participation, not exclusion,” Davis continued. “House Joint Resolution B does nothing to solve real challenges and instead creates roadblocks for eligible American voters. This measure is just another attempt to block voter access and burden election officials, undermining the foundations of our democracy. We stand united against any attempt to roll back the progress Michiganders have fought for.”
